Technical SEO FAQ · Technical SEO Strategy & Foundations

What does technical SEO mean beyond crawling, indexing and fixing errors?

Technical SEO is about how the website's architecture communicates with search engines.

A technically healthy site should make it clear:

  • which URLs exist;
  • which URLs matter;
  • how important pages are connected;
  • what each page represents;
  • which versions are duplicates;
  • which URLs should be indexed;
  • how content is rendered;
  • how the site changes over time.

A page can return 200 and still have serious technical SEO problems. It could be canonicalized elsewhere, blocked from indexing, dependent on failed JavaScript, orphaned, or disconnected from the site's architecture.

Therefore, advanced technical SEO is not a checklist of errors. It is the management of the search-accessibility and information architecture of the website.
