Technical SEO FAQ · Indexing, Canonicalization & Duplicate Content

How do you investigate "Crawled - currently not indexed"?

Treat the status as a diagnostic clue, not a diagnosis.

Investigate:

  • uniqueness;
  • content depth;
  • canonical;
  • internal linking;
  • sitemap inclusion;
  • rendering;
  • HTTP response;
  • duplicate clustering;
  • page value;
  • site-wide patterns.

If hundreds of valuable, unique pages show this status, investigate the common template or architecture.

If thousands of near-duplicate pages show it, the problem may be URL generation rather than crawling.

Google's documentation emphasizes that crawling does not guarantee indexing.
