# How do you investigate "Crawled - currently not indexed"?

> Treat the status as a diagnostic clue, not a diagnosis.

Investigate:

- uniqueness;

- content depth;

- canonical;

- internal linking;

- sitemap inclusion;

- rendering;

- HTTP response;

- duplicate clustering;

- page value;

- site-wide patterns.

If hundreds of valuable, unique pages show this status, investigate the common template or architecture.

If thousands of near-duplicate pages show it, the problem may be URL generation rather than crawling.

Google's documentation emphasizes that crawling does not guarantee indexing.
