Technical SEO FAQ · URL Architecture, Internal Linking & Information Architecture

How deep should important pages be within a site's architecture?

There is no universal Google rule such as "every page must be within three clicks."

The practical goal is discoverability and logical internal linking.

If a page is five clicks away but is well linked from important category pages, it may be discoverable.

If a page is one click away from the homepage but only exists through a JavaScript interaction Google cannot process, its effective discoverability can still be poor.

Google recommends making important pages reachable through crawlable links.
