How do you troubleshoot incorrect canonicalization at scale?
Export:
- declared canonical;
- Google-selected canonical;
- URL;
- status;
- sitemap status;
- internal-link target;
- duplicate cluster.
Then group mismatches by template.
If 80% of mismatches come from one CMS template, fix the template rather than individual URLs.
Google recommends using URL Inspection to see Google's selected canonical and checking technical signals such as redirects, canonical tags and localization annotations.
