What Is a Site Migration?

A site migration is any major change to a website's domain, URL structure, or platform that requires careful planning to preserve existing search rankings.

Traffic loss after a migration is almost always a planning failure, not an algorithmic penalty — the most common causes are missing redirects, unmapped URLs, and premature DNS cutover.
