What Is a Meta Robots Tag?

A meta robots tag is an HTML element placed in a page's head section that tells search engines whether to index that specific page and whether to follow its links.

Unlike robots.txt, a meta robots tag operates at the individual page level and requires the page to be crawled first for the directive to be seen and obeyed.
